Annular Eclipse Experiences

In the final 10 minutes before annularity, check for the following:

1. Any planets (e.g., Venus) or bright stars visible? (do not look at the sun without eclipse glasses)
2. Any change in behavior of birds or other animals?
3. Any changes in brightness of the sunlight?
4. What colors or shades seem odd?
5. Any naked eye (with eclipse glasses) visible sunspots?

Describe what occurs in the last 5 minutes before the beginning of complete annular phase:

1. Any change in temperature?
2. Does wind direction or speed vary?
3. Look at the shadows of buildings, etc., are they different?
4. Just before annularity, do you see the moon’s shadow coming over distant hills or other features?
5. If you didn’t know there was an eclipse, would you have noticed it?

As annularity passes from 2^nd to 3^rd contacts:

1. Describe what you see on the ground where the sun once shone fully.
2. Can you see any detail around the disks?
3. What time do you see the moon’s disk centered between 2^nd and 3^rd contacts? (maximum eclipse)
