Western Colorado Astronomy Club Summer Star Party June 6 to June 8
The Western Colorado Astronomy Club will host its annual star party from June 6-8, 2008, at a new site on the Colorado National Monument, just 15 minutes from the city of Grand Junction. There will be two observing areas, a traditional campground for attendees who want to set up a permanent site, and a large, paved parking lot nearby for those who prefer less formal, or temporary set ups. Both are at an elevation of 5800 feet (1770 m) and feature dark, transparent skies with a visual limiting magnitude typically better than 6. The sites are accessible by most vehicles including large motor homes, and in addition to the excellent observing conditions, we will also sponsor a pot luck supper on Saturday and a door prize raffle. The suggested donation is only $20 per person. Venture Outdoors Festival June 14th, Canyon Rim Park. Salt Lake Astronomical Society
The 3rd annual Venture Outdoors Festival will be held Saturday, June 14, 2008 from 3-9 p.m. at the Canyon Rim Park (3100 South. 2900 East.). In addition to the music, food, interactive recreation clinics,the event will also host its first astronomy venue. Solar viewing and kids hands-on projects, presentations on telescopes and binoculars as well as equipment for stargazing are on the list of activities. A free star party will follow in the evening.

Campout with the Stars – June 27 and 28
Astronomy Magazine, REI, the St. Louis Science Center, Hawn State Park and the St. Louis Astronomical Society are partnering up to offer you this unique, first-time opportunity for the novice camper and astronomy observer. Take the guesswork out of learning about the night sky and take the guesswork out of learning how to camp in the beauty of Missouri’s nature parks. Our skilled volunteers will teach you the basics of astronomy observing. Intended for all skill levels, this weekend is a great opportunity to increase your knowledge and to build your confidence before setting out on your own. Diehard enthusiasts, our experienced volunteers are committed to sharing their knowledge with you and ensuring an enjoyable experience for every participant. We are making this as hassle-free as possible. We will arrange for the camp sites, telescopes, and knowledgeable volunteers to assist you to make your weekend an unqualified success. You bring your telescopes, binoculars, planosphere, and star maps. Bring your enthusiasm, questions, and red flash lights only and we’ll supply the telescopes and the experience!
