Austin Under the Stars
Austin Astronomical Society (AAS), in collaboration with St. Stephen’s Episcopal School, brings to the public Austin Under the Stars (AUTS). AUTS, now in its 21st year, is designed to bring the spectacles of the night sky and hands on astronomical learning to the Austin Metropolitan community.
This special event, free of charge, is scheduled from 6:00 p.m. to midnight on Saturday, June 2 and will take place on Phipps Field and in the Spartan Fitness & Wellness Center on the St. Stephen’s Campus off of the Capital of Texas Highway at 6500 St. Stephen’s Drive 78746.
The event will kick off with amateur astronomers from the AAS providing safe solar viewing and hands on activities before moving into darker sky observing. Back by popular demand this year will be planetarium shows in the mobile dome, air rocket launching, science micro-talks and ask an astronomer. New to the field will be an interactive walk of the solar system as well as activities and representation by NASA and local STEM organizations.
This is an exciting opportunity to introduce the public, of all ages and experience levels, to the wonders of the night sky. Visible throughout the evening will be phenomenon of the cosmos including: Venus, Jupiter, and Saturn as well as many stars, galaxies, globular clusters, nebulae.
